Portsmouth salon welcomes new team member as owner urges others to consider young recruits

A SALON has grown since opening with a new member joining its team.

Ellie Jeffrey-Davis has recently joined the team at Hardysalon in Portsmouth as a graduate stylist.

The salon’s owner, Rachel Hardy said that investing in a younger staff member has boosted the team, and is urging others to consider doing the same.

She said: ‘We’ve found that by investing in younger staff members, we’re really bringing something new to our team. They’re so eager to learn and will really take on board the advice you give them and work harder to make improvements/

‘It’s a positive for the clients, as they get to pay Ellie’s rates, which can be more attractive and appealing to some, it’s a positive for us, as we get to take on a great team member and it’s a positive for Ellie as she is able to do what she loves and work in an environment that will help her reach her career goals.

‘Ellie’s really busy already and is so keen to get stuck in and take on clients already. We’re looking forward to seeing her flourish.’

17-year-old Ellie is soon to graduate from Portsmouth hairdressing college, Haha Training Academy.

She said: ‘It’s great to get the opportunity to work as a stylist straight after graduating and I’m really eager to learn and improve. There’s no better way of learning than by doing so I really feel like I’m getting the best education I can.’

Rachel said that having a new member of staff has allowed her to be less hands-on and spend more time working on the business, allowing her to put in plans for the future.

She said: ‘Because Ellie’s been working so hard, I’ve been able to plan for new services and concepts and got the wheels in motion to make them happen. We’re planning on launching something new in the next couple of months and we wouldn’t have been able to do that if it weren’t for having another pair of hands.

‘I’d urge every salon owner to consider investing in newly-qualified or trainee hairdressers.’
