Pyle Tattoo Studio Shortlisted for Two National Awards

Written by Lisa Baker
A Pyle-based Tattoo Studio has reached the finals after being nominated for Best Tattoo Studio and Best Tattooist in the UK Small Business Awards 2025.
This is a huge achievement for a small local business which prides itself on personal service and only recently celebrated it’s two year anniversary, so we popped down to meet the team in person and learn more about them.

Run by Tattoo Artist Mark Lomax and wife Izabela, Lomax Tattoo Studio is based on Pyle Cross and has already taken on a second tattooist, Hollie, to cope with the demand for work. Next steps include plans to utilise space at the rear of the studio to open a beauty salon in the coming months.
A far cry from a tiny corner or ‘dingy box room’, the salon is spacious and comfortable, creating a calm, reassuring space for clients who may be nervous about their first tattoo – and comfort definitely matters as many of Mark’s more detailed designs can take hours!

Lead tattooist Mark is a former professional portrait artist working extensively with pencil, and this talent is expressed perfectly in his inks, which offer deep shading and intricate, lifelike designs. Frankly, I was blown away by his work, although he is quick to reassure that he can also do everything from simple work like names and dates to the more lifelike child and pet portraits for which he is building a solid reputation. Currently fully booked until November, demand is high and he is already working 6 days per week.

With their artistry already attracting clients from across South Wales, reaching the finals of the UK Small Business Awards 2025 feels like well-deserved recognition for Lomax Tattoo Studio’s hard work and creativity.
Supporting the local community by fundraising for good causes and sponsoring local football team Bryntyrion FC under 9’s squad., it’s clear that Mark, Izabela, and Hollie remain grounded despite the national attention. Their focus remains to offer each client a friendly, personal experience — whether they’re walking in for a small commemorative tattoo or a detailed portrait that takes hours to complete. It’s therefore not surprising that much of their work is repeat business.
The award winners will be announced later this year, but whatever the outcome, we loved our visit today. Lomax Tattoo Studio has already marked itself as a standout in the community — not only for its exceptional work, but for the welcoming, supportive space it has created in the heart of Pyle. We wish them every success.
