OneDay.Global Calls for One Day of Collective Action to Tackle Climate Change

- OneDay.Global is uniting UK businesses and their people to give One Day’s Pay for positive climate action.
- Organisations supporting the initiative include M7 Real Estate, New West End Company and MyGWork
Friday 28 October, London: Today marks a landmark day for collective action as businesses and UK citizens come together to offer one day for positive climate action as part of the OneDay.Global campaign. Launched earlier this year, OneDay.Global is uniting businesses and organisations of all sizes and their people to give One Day’s Pay.
OneDay.Global, is the first official annual day focused on raising funds to invest in global, national and grassroots organisations to speed up carbon reduction and to limit/reverse climate change.
The campaign gives businesses and individuals the opportunity to ‘invest’ in a portfolio of projects focused on reducing carbon through habitat restoration, increasing biodiversity to help preserve the Earth’s ecosystems and support the shift towards a low-carbon and climate resilient future.
This year OneDay.Global will focus on four projects that have been selected based on their capacity to scale up with investment:
- Protecting and restoring seagrass in Plymouth with Ocean Conservation Trust
- Planting large standard trees in UK cities with Trees for Cities
- Planting a brand new OneDay Forest in Cornwall with Plant One Cornwall
- Protecting the Atlantic Forest, Brazil with World Land Trust’s Buy an Acre programme
Businesses are increasingly aware of the need for them to act, and OneDay.Global provides a solution for companies to support their net zero commitments and ESG strategies with tangible impacts. Organisations supporting this year include M7 Real Estate, who are making a generous corporate donation and encouraging their employees to donate a day’s salary where they feel able, as well as New West End Company, and MyGWork who have taken the campaign to their memberships.
And for us all, it is an easy way to do our bit. Supporters can choose which organisation to give their One Day’s Pay, or even just an hour’s pay, and donate on the OneDay.Global website directly to the charities through JustGiving.
Nigel Topping, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion: “Preserving nature is a key element in the world’s effort both to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Businesses serious about fulfilling net-zero emissions pledges must take action to protect, conserve, and regenerate the natural resources and ecosystems that support our economic growth, food security, health, and climate.
By working collectively, we can funnel investments that provide meaningful action into nature-positive solutions to help deliver at scale, and sooner. OneDay.Global provides a focused and clear pathway for the private-sector and individuals alike to do just that.”
Sarah Dawson, Founder of OneDay.Global: “Despite climate change being the greatest challenge facing humanity, when I looked there was no one campaign catalysing investment from us all to projects that could help slow down or even reverse global warming. With a long career in charity campaigns, I felt compelled to take action. What if the whole world dedicated one day to climate change? If everyone gave the equivalent amount – one day’s pay (or even just an hour) and for business, one day’s profit or a donation – to scale up and speed up UK and global programmes protecting and restoring habitats to draw down carbon from our atmosphere.
With such a turbulent economic and world climate, I know it is a big ask. Can we afford to save the planet right now? But the real question is, can we afford NOT to?”
Teresa Dyer, Chief Operating Officer at M7 Real Estate commented: “OneDay.Global’s #GiveOneDay is a fantastic initiative for M7 to be a part of, helping to channel our resources towards the right climate solutions and rising to the challenge of protecting our planet. The programme provides a unique opportunity for all of us to work together as a collective, mitigating the impacts of climate change and positively contributing to our local communities. We look forward to joining this hugely important project to play our part in creating a greener future and helping OneDay.Global achieve its ambitions.”
Dan Bradbury, Director of Brand and Communications, World Land Trust: “Only 7% of Brazil’s Atlantic Forest remains intact today. By supporting World Land Trust’s Buy an Acre on OneDay.Global, you will help protect one of the world’s top 5 biodiversity hotspots – an area that is critically endangered.”
Roger Maslin, Chief Executive Officer, Ocean Conservation Trust: “We are delighted to be one of the first OneDay.Global official partners and all the funding received will help us to regenerate 700 hectares of seagrass in the UK, protecting wildlife like rare seahorses, supporting sustainable local fisheries and creating a carbon store for future generations.”
